Today I moved all my hosted services off Linode servers. Last March Linode was bought by Akamai. I’ve been putting off moving because I was holding out hope that Linode would continue to be a standalone company but last month Akamai announce the Linode brand was being retired. Still, I held off on moving mostly out of laziness if I’m being honest but also still hoped the Linode experience wouldn’t change too much.
A few days ago Akamai sent out a message announcing a 20% price hike to all shared plans. That did it for me. I’d been with Linode since 2011 and had no intention of moving before the acquisition but corp came in and did what corp does so here we are.
RIP Linode, it was fun.
