Film Photography

In a recent post I mentioned that I bought a couple of film cameras and I finally got the scans back from the 1st color I roll I put through my Rolleiflex Model T yesterday. Out of 16 exposures I ended up getting 13 and most looked pretty ok, which surprised me because this camera is fully manual and in the past I’ve relied on the aperture priority function of my digital camera. I have since started using an app on my iphone to help me meter shots and dial in the exposure. For these I just decided to wing it!

Out of the 13 pics I got, I’m pretty happy with 4 of them. Of course I can nitpick things I need to work on and I know that I will get better as I shoot more.

I also mentioned that I was looking for something to help me slow down and shooting on film has definitely accomplished that. I have 2 more rolls of medium format being developed now along with my first roll of 35mm from the Rollei 35. I did start using the iphone app to meter on most of those so I’m very interested to see any improvements.

The interesting thing with the Rollei 35 is that it’s a rangefinder camera, meaning you don’t actually see focus in the viewfinder. I have a working knowledge of zone focusing but I’ve never put it into practice. I fully expect that first 35mm roll to be out of focus.

None of it will be a failure though, it will all be a learning experience!

On to the pics!
