I’ve struggled with perfectionism my whole life and I’ve written about not doing things I enjoy because I’m holding myself to a standard that I don’t really know and will never be able to achieve.
Perfectionism is nothing but ego and arrogance imho. There’s no way anything I ever do will be perfect *especially* if it’s something new, like creating videos, or something I haven’t done in a long time like blogging.
I am getting ok-ish with things being “good enough”. However I’m only ok with “good enough” if the things I’m doing are improving. How do I measure improvement though? Currently it’s completely subjective to me based on how I feel. I realize that’s not the best way to measure improvement and I’m definitely open to better ways to gauge things.
I read a blog post by Steph Smith back in 2019 on how to be great by being consistently good. It really struck me and changed the way I work and I believe that mindset shift has led to the promotions I’ve gotten which has led to the role I’m in now. It’s really just a matter of showing up every day and moving the needle forward. It’s worth the read time I highly recommend heading over to Steph’s blog and checking it out.
My issues in finding a better way to do things and measure success is the internet is overrun with self proclaimed productivity “experts” and “gurus”, some of whom haven’t actually done anything but create YouTube videos on the subject! Also it takes time to adapt someone else’s routine into your own and more time to figure out if the newly adapted routine will actually work for you in the long run. All that being said I’d love to hear what you do to improve yourself and how you measure your successes and set goals based on that!
Instead of just stopping there I’ll try to wrap up a bit. I’m getting better at being ok with “good enough” as long as that good enough gets better over time. But how to measure those incremental steps? That’s what I’m trying to figure out! In the meantime I’m going to continue improving my blogging skills and finding my voice in writing.
